PLATE Bankstown Art Centre, Curation & Art Work.
The love of it, the lack of it, the need for it.
Food and how we deliver it and consume it.
It is something that each of us, at some point in the day, has to consider and then act on. What attracted me to this concept from an artistic lens is its uniquely individual perspective. No one comes at it from the same place. This would even be for families eating the same food. Everyone has a perspective on what they think and what they like. Food orders, a bit like coffee these days, are full of caveats. Everyone has a consideration that needs to be expressed.
The exhibition plate was an opportunity for me as a media artist to try and evoke a sense of place that sits around the physical artworks in the gallery space. How can we all be different, yet, in biological reality, we are all the same?
PLATE 🍽️ evokes stories for the artist and the audience. We all respond to the sounds, smells, and visuals of food. PLATE conjures up moments of togetherness and moments of aloneness. Times of celebration and times of commiseration.
