Sydney Contemporary 2025 Works on Paper With Tiliqua Tiliqua Gallery
Works on Paper
A fair within the Fair; presented in association with The Print Council of Australia Inc, the dedicated Paper sector showcases the best of national and international contemporary works on paper–watercolours, drawings, artist books, prints and editions. My work is being shown with Tiliqua Tiliqua Art Gallery, Sydney.
My cousin gave me a book on Byzantine art, and it was love at first sight.
Byzantine art started in the decline of the Western Roman Empire in the mid-1400s. Mostly, artists were beholden to the church, creating religious iconography and retelling biblical stories. Though artists painted mythological stories and semi-human religious figures, too. A mix of refined beauty and macabre images. The ancient and contemporary world are intertwined in the Byzantine concerns and aesthetics, God, love, fear and brutality. The images lend themselves to modern interpretation.
I have used collage, up-cycled paper, mixed -media and handmade paper in this body of work. Upcycling old drawings and creating new images from them.
